One of the final songs written for the album, "4 Deep in the Dub" originally started out as a country song in the style of Hank Williams Sr. The song went through many iterations and had various elements and layers added and taken away. The bubbly guitar tone is achieved not with a chorus effect, but through heavily manipulating an auto wah effect on a Vox Valvetronix amplifier. There are more than 6 guitars on the song.
lyrics
Flash back to rolling 4 Deep in the Dub
Watched the villains strike it big
Wanted to be a hero, had a sweet spot for the scrub
Had to warm up to the shindig
CHORUS:
4 Deep, Cudi in the car
Trying to find who we are
My family backed me up
Yeah, they held me up
When it came to doing dirty shit, I held up
Wanted to be Prince, but hadn't got there yet
Didn't have as much practice at making them wet
Moved on and around
I branched out how I pound
Legally scored a pound
Put others wheels to the ground
Races and faces blending through places
Traces of 8 balls and aces, Somalian cases
CHORUS
Never did need chemicals to make my night
Evolution was on my mind, even in the light
Saw people around me grow lazy and chase a baby
Letting shit happen, it started to make me crazy
Now I've got notches and the violent edge
Mix that with the love of competition, success is born and bred
The manifesto manifests itself, man, in my festivals
Always knew, never worried, even when I worked at Festival
